Freak the Mighty

By Rodman Philbrick

"I never had a brain until Freak came along. . . "

That's what Max thought. All his life he'd been called stupid. Dumb. Slow. It didn't help that his body seemed to be growing faster than his mind. It didn't help that people were afraid of him. So Max learned how to be alone. At least until Freak came along.

Freak was weird, too. He had a little body - and a really big brain. Together Max and Freak were unstoppable. Together, they were Freak the Mighty.

After reading the book, fill in your plot sheet AND choose ONE of the following projects:
  1. Create a board game based on this book with comprehension questions, game board design, game pieces, and full set of directions on the object of the game and how to play. We will play the game after you present.
  2. Complete a Book Mosaic. Click on this link to see the directions. Your mosaic can be completed on poster board or printed on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper.
  3. Create a LIFE MAP for Max. This is like a road map, but the landmarks along the road should be marked by important events that happen in Max's life. Your road map can be completed on a poster board OR you can use the online interactive organizer.
  • If you make the LIFE MAP on poster board, be sure to include a picture for each "landmark" and a written description that tells why that event is important in Max's life.
  • If you use the online organizer, be sure to print it! Here is the link to the online organizer LIFE MAP online organize
