When Moose's family moves to Alcatraz so his father can work as a guard and his sister can attend a special school in San Francisco, Moose has to leave his friends and his winning baseball team behind. But it's worth it, right? If his sister, Natalie, can finally get help, maybe his family will finally be normal.

But as it turns out, life on Alcatraz is much more complicated than even Moose would have predicted.

After reading the book answer the questions in the google docs document - Al Capone Does My Shirts - This document has been shared with you. THEN...choose either project 1 or 2.

1. Map the Setting
  • Draw a complete map of Alcatraz on poster board.
  • Label all of the important places and buildings, especially those mentioned in the book.
  • Be creative and make a large detailed map of the island. There are great resources on the internet to help you make a wonderful visual.

  • Choose one location on the island that you think was important to the story. Write one paragraph describing why this place was important to the story.
2.Book Mosaic
  • See the Summer Reading Home Page to click on an example of the Book Mosaic outline under the Prove It Projects section.
  • Follow the Book Mosaic outline to complete the project. Use a poster board or create it using a program like Microsoft Word on the computer.
  • Be prepared to discuss your mosaic and describe five of the mosaic squares.
